The Salt of the Earth
Those looking for something to do this weekend should definitely consider checking out The Salt of Earth. This biographical documentary, conceived by directors Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado, portrays the life and works of Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado. Salgado worked for more than 40 years behind the camera documenting the stark struggles of humanity in various parts of the globe. Now, the camera has turned to face him as he recalls his extensive travels and direct involvement in some of the most important occurrences of the 20th century. The Salt of the Earth paints a picture like no other, one of a life of unparalleled devotion not only to an art form but to everyone that has been touched by it.

I highly recommend this film. Salgado is a master at giving us insight into the human condition. He work helps us to develop empathy for his subject. His work in Genesis shows us places on the earth that seem untouched by the sprawl of people, development and technologies. Aside from the brilliant work that he’s done as a photographer, his family revitalized the family farm and it’s now a national park. They brought life to thousands of hectares of land that was dead. This film should be required for all Graded students. Thanks for sharing this with our community.
